Disaster preparedness and planning are essential for the community.
Citizens who have attained basic training are able to manage disaster
situations better than those who have not. This in turn relieves some of
the demand placed on emergency services during a disaster thereby
allowing us to focus on those most in need. Participants in the program
will earn a certificate of completion that is valid nationwide. Program topics include:
- The Individual’s Role in Preparedness
- Disaster Medical I & II
- Fire Safety and Utility control
- Terrorism and disaster psychology
- Basic Search & Rescue
- Introduction to the Incident Command System
Our CERT program will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the role the fire department serves in the community as well as give you the knowledge and skills to know what to do when a disaster occurs. The CERT program will help you gain an understanding of the need for personal emergency preparedness over two weeks and four sessions. Completion of CERT is a prerequisite to join the Community Support Team (CST) which you can read more about on the CST page. At the end of the class, you have the option of taking the CERT final exam. If you don't want to take the exam, you can leave the course knowing a little bit more about personal preparedness. If you take the final and successfully pass (don't worry, no one has failed yet) you can take the next step by becoming a member of the Community Support Team.
