Trips and Tours

Explore with Shawnee Parks & Recreation and Shawnee Mission Trips! All trips depart from and return to the Shawnee Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive. Each trip has its own individual registration and cancellation deadline. All trips must meet the minimum enrollment by the registration deadline, although many fill up prior to this date. If space remains, additional registrations may be taken until the trip is full. Cancellations will be accommodated as available. Many trips have deposits and deadlines that cannot be refunded. In the event that you need to cancel, we will make every attempt to issue any refunds that may still be available.

Prairie Band Casino (July 15)

Travel with us to Prairie Band Casino! Grab your lucky rabbit’s foot and enjoy 5 hours of gaming with $10 of Prairie Cash and a $10 food voucher! Don’t forget your government issued photo ID.

Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. (August 10)

We are not going to have to travel too far for this this groundbreaking exhibition. Union Station is hosting: Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. An exhibition dedicated to the history of Auschwitz and its role in the Holocaust. This exhibition brings together more than 700 original objects and 400 photographs from over 20 institutions and museums around the world. Following Union Station we will visit Jerusalem Café for lunch before returning home.

Starlight: Escape to Margaritaville (September 21)

Welcome to Margaritaville, where people come to get away from it all—and stay to find something they never expected. With a book by Emmy Award® winner Greg Garcia (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy Award® nominee Mike O’Malley (“Survivors Remorse,” “Shameless”) ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy featuring both original songs and your most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including “Fins,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and many more. Prior to the show we will enjoy a buffet dinner at Starlight.

Apples & Alpacas (October 6)

FALL into fun with Shawnee Mission Trips as we venture to Manna Meadows and Cider Hill Family Orchard. We will tour Manna Meadows, meet and greet with the alpacas and learn more about these furry friends! We will stop at The Nest, located in the Falcon Lakes Golf Club, for lunch before touring the Cider Hill Family Orchard. We will enjoy a 1-hour educational tour of the orchard and learn more about the Shearer family and their history with the orchard.

Golden Eagle Casino (November 3)

Bring home some gold from Golden Eagle! We will travel to Golden Eagle Casino in  Horton, KS for 5 hours of gaming. Early Eagles BINGO begins at 1:15pm with the regular session at 2:00pm. Slots, tables or BINGO, you have your choice of all three! Each player will receive $15 on their Eagle Rewards Card, just for joining us on the bus! Don’t forget your state issued ID.

Holiday Lights Tour (December 8)

All aboard the Shawnee Mission Christmas Train (well, bus, but you get the point)! We will cruise by Kansas City’s classic Holiday Light displays while soaking up the sounds of the season on our comfy motorcoach. We will drive through downtown, the plaza and by Crown Center to see the Mayor’s Christmas Tree. We will see the famous Longview Lake display and the simply magical Lees Summit Magic Tree. We will wrap up the evening with a terrific light show to music at Deanna Rose Farmstead.

Lyceum Theater: A Christmas Carol (December 17)

The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theater brings to life the familiar story of a seemingly heartless miser given one last chance at redemption by four visiting ghosts. On Christmas Eve Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes an incredible transformation as he is guided through his past, present and the possibilities of his future. A Christmas Carol’s timeless and heartwarming message, dazzling scenery and costumes, and delightful holiday music will get you in the Christmas spirit.
