On the same ballot, voters also approved a new 10-year, 3/8 cent sales tax that will be specifically used for maintenance and improvements to City streets, curbs, and sidewalks.

The new 10-year renewal period for "Parks and Pipes" began on January 1, 2016 and will end on December 31, 2025.

The pavement sales tax (.375%) went into effect on April 1, 2015 and will end on March 31, 2025.

Special Assessment Tax
Shawnee handles special assessments for streets and sidewalks. Affected property owners may at their option pay the assessment in its entirety in one lump sum by a set date or allow the assessment to be put on the property tax rolls and spread over a 10-year period with interest. The City may also issue special assessments for codes enforcement if a property owner fails to cut his lawn after notification by the City and the property is subsequently mowed by the City.
