The City of Shawnee Fire Department provides service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Shawnee Fire Department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). SFD consists of 73 fire service professionals that respond as five companies running out of four stations. Station 74 opened in January 2019 and proudly serves Northwest Shawnee. On average, SFD responds to just over 6,000 calls annually. Nearly 70% of those calls are emergency medical in nature. SFD operates three shifts, A, B, and C, based the Berkley schedule. The Berkley schedule consists of three 24-hour shifts with 24 hours off in between. After the third shift on duty, the crew has four days off.
Daily staffing consists of 22 personnel including one battalion chief, five captains, and sixteen firefighters. In addition, SFD’s administration includes the fire chief, two deputy chiefs, emergency services chief, two fire prevention officers, fire chaplain, and one administrative assistant. The Fire Department provides an array of services to the citizens of Shawnee. Some of these services include fire prevention, emergency medical services (EMS) at a basic life support level, fire suppression, technical rescue, water rescue, a wildland firefighting task force, emergency preparedness, life safety education and more.
