Monticello Road, just south of 60th Street, will be closed beginning Monday, August 4, and is expected to reopen by Friday, August 8. This temporary closure is necessary to complete emergency repairs to a failing underground pipe. This short-term repair will allow Monticello Road to remain open and operational through mid-to-late September, when a full closure of approximately 3 to 4 weeks will be required to permanently replace the damaged pipe and restore the roadway.
Originally, this pipe was scheduled for replacement during summer 2025, strategically timed to minimize disruption to nearby schools. However, due to manufacturing delays affecting the delivery of reinforced concrete box structures, the project was postponed to summer 2026, with the hope that the existing pipe would remain functional in the interim.
Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall on July 16 caused a rapid deterioration of the pipe, leading to the formation of a sinkhole on Monticello Road. Roadway plates were installed as an immediate safety measure, but delaying permanent repairs is no longer an option.
We understand this closure will significantly impact local traffic and appreciate your patience as we address this urgent infrastructure issue. Our crews are committed to completing the work as safely and efficiently as possible. Detour routes will be clearly posted in advance of the closure.
