Trips and Tours

Explore with Shawnee Parks & Recreation and Shawnee Mission Trips! All trips depart from and return to the Shawnee Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive. Each trip has its own individual registration and cancellation deadline. All trips must meet the minimum enrollment by the registration deadline, although many fill up prior to this date. If space remains, additional registrations may be taken until the trip is full. Cancellations will be accommodated as available. Many trips have deposits and deadlines that cannot be refunded. In the event that you need to cancel, we will make every attempt to issue any refunds that may still be available.

Hamilton (February 19)
Don’t throw away your shot—join us for an unforgettable afternoon at the Kansas City Music Hall to see the award-winning musical Hamilton! We’ll begin at Strang Hall, where you can choose and purchase your own lunch from a variety of delicious chef-driven eateries. Then we’re off to the theater with tickets, transportation, and parking included. Get ready for history, music, and a fantastic day out with friends!

Set Sail (March 12)
Join us for a nautical-themed adventure, no life jackets required! We’ll explore the Titanic: An Immersive Voyage exhibit at Union Station, enjoy a fun, boat-inspired lunch at The Ship, and then visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum to see the incredible recovered treasures before the museum relocates at the end of 2026. Don't miss this tour before these exibits set sail!

Kansas Roots: History and Tulips (April 9, 16 or 23)
Join us for Kansas Roots, a spring day trip to Topeka filled with history, great food, and tulip blooms. We’ll start at the newly renovated Kansas History Museum, then enjoy a BBQ box lunch from Iron Rail inside Snyders Cabin at Gage Park surrounded by tulips. Our afternoon takes us to Ted Ensley Gardens for Tulip Time, where gentle paths and lakeside views showcase thousands of colorful tulips. To ensure we catch the flowers at their peak, the trip will take place on Thursday, April 9, 16, or 23, with the final date announced by early April.

Jails, Trails & Chuckwagon Tales (May 13)
Step back into frontier history with a day in Independence, Missouri. Explore the historic Bingham-Waggoner Home, enjoy time on the Square, visit the 1859 Jail Museum, and learn about westward expansion at the National Frontier Trails Museum. This relaxed trip blends local history, storytelling, and classic Midwest charm.

A Day in Amish Country: Jamesport, MO (July 23)
Enjoy a day in Jamesport, Missouri, exploring one of the region’s largest Amish communities. The morning offers time to stroll downtown, shop local stores, and browse Amish-made goods before enjoying lunch at the popular Gingerich Dutch Pantry. In the afternoon, relax on a guided step-on tour through the countryside and learn about Amish traditions, history, and daily life from a local expert.

Southern Charm in Arrow Rock: Steel Magnolias (August 21)
