The City of Shawnee Fire Department provides service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Shawnee Fire Department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). SFD consists of 72 fire service professionals that respond as five companies running out of three stations. The addition of a fourth station had been approved and is currently in the design process. In 2016, SFD responded to 5617 calls of which nearly 70% were emergency medical in nature. SFD operates three shifts, A, B, and C, based the Berkley schedule. The Berkley schedule consists of three 24-hour shifts with 24 hours off in between. After the third shift on duty, the crew has four days off.

Daily staffing consists of 20 personnel including one battalion chief, five captains, and fourteen firefighters. In addition, SFD’s administration includes the fire chief, deputy chief, emergency services chief, fire marshal, fire prevention officer, and one administrative assistant. The Fire Department provides an array of services to the citizens of Shawnee. Some of these services include fire prevention, emergency medical services (EMS) at a basic life support level, fire suppression, technical rescue, water rescue, emergency preparedness, life safety education and more.
