Welcome to the Shawnee K9 Unit.

K9 Gio

Police Canine Gio is a Belgian Malinois and started his tenure with the Shawnee Police Department in January 2013. After an eight week basic training course with Officer Shaun Arnold, Gio was certified with the National Police Canine Association in narcotics detection and patrol skills. In 2015, Gio took first place in narcotics detection at the Heartland Police Canine Trials. In 2017, Officer Arnold and K9 Gio spent 6 weeks training other K9s and their handlers in canine detection.

K9 Grim

Police Canine Grim is also a Belgian Malinois. Grim joined the unit in 2016 after the Shawnee Police Department was awarded a grant from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation. Grim attended the eight week basic training course with Officer Ryan Skinner, completing the National Police Canine Association curriculum for explosives detection and patrol skills. K9 Grim received first place in explosives detection at the 2017 Heartland Police Police Canine Trials.

K9 Fall

Police Canine Fall is a Belgian Malinois and started his tenure with the Shawnee Police Department in January 2015 at the age of 3. After an eight week basic training course with Officer Matt Hashagen, Fall was certified with the National Police Canine Association in narcotics detection and patrol skills. The first night Fall was on patrol, he was used to locate a suspect that had fled from a stolen vehicle. In 2015, and again in 2017, Canine Fall took first place in the North Central Regional Police Patrol Dog Competition
