Want to take the opportunity to save some money on fines and do some good for the community at the same time? Take advantage of this opportunity being offered by the City of Shawnee Municipal Court!

FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, YOU MAY PAY A PORTION OF YOUR FINES WITH NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS FROM THE LIST BELOW AND A PORTION OF YOUR FINES WILL BE CREDITED. HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:

1. You must owe a fine on any charge THAT IS NOT A DUI OR A SEAT BELT VIOLATION!

2. This program is in place only from September 16 through September 20, 2019.

3. If you bring in non-perishable food items FROM THE LIST BELOW, along with a receipt to show proof of purchase and the amount paid, the court will grant you a credit towards your fines for double the amount paid for the food, UP TO A MAXIMUM OF $25 of food, which credits $50 towards your fines! You get double the credit towards fines!

Example: Your fine and fees total $130. You provide a receipt and non-perishable food items of $25. You will get credit for the $25 spent on the food, and the court will also give you another credit of $25 for a total of $50, and you will pay the balance of $80 by cash or credit card. You provide $25 worth of non-perishable food items for local families in need, and you save $50 off of your fines!

4. If you choose to take advantage of this opportunity, you must appear in person at Shawnee Municipal Court with the receipt and the school supplies and you MUST pay the balance owing at that time, unless you already have an established payment plan in which case you can apply this to your monthly payment. No additional time to pay the balance will be granted.

5. This opportunity is available one time only per defendant. No exceptions.

6. If your citation has a total amount due and none of the offenses require a mandatory appearance in court, you may also be eligible to apply this option for an amendment fee. This is at the discretion of the prosecutors and you should consult the court clerks to discuss this option.

7. A list of requested non-perishable food items is as follows:

  • Cereal
  • Canned fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Pasta
  • Tuna Helper
  • Pork and beans
