Stormwater Construction Requirements
The City of Shawnee City Council adopted two ordinances
which will affect the development requirements for new development in the City
of Shawnee. These changes will fulfill the City’s compliance activity objectives
to meet the regulatory requirements of the City’s State of Kansas Water
Pollution Control Permit (EPA’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) Phase II requirements) that became effective in 2003.
Title 11
Stormwater Management Program
In order to improve the organization of the Shawnee Municipal
Code (SMC) related to Stormwater Management, the City Council also
created a new Title 11
Stormwater Management Program that combines four existing
Chapters, adds two new Chapters and consolidate definitions and compliance
regulations.
Erosion and Sediment Control (Land
Disturbance Activity Ordinance)
This ordinance more comprehensively addresses sediment and erosion
control issues throughout the City and requires a greater amount of plan
review, inspection, and enforcement effort by the City.
Post Construction Stormwater Quality Treatment Ordinance the requirements of this ordinance will
apply to all preliminary plats that are approved after February 1, 2008.
This ordinance requires new methods for controlling and treating
stormwater runoff before it enters the City’s stormwater drainage system
and will be required of all new development and redevelopment throughout
the City. This ordinance will require additional administrative
activities of the City to enforce the requirements.
PS-27 Public Works Department Development and Service Fees provides
for new fees and surety amounts that are required by the two new
ordinances.
