named one of the 25 best and most affordable suburbs in the United States
by BusinessWeek online - November 2006. Working with Portland, Oregon based Web site
Sperling’s Best Places, BusinessWeek.com analyzed statistics on crime,
housing prices, cost of living and schools to come up with the top 25
list. All of the suburbs selected are located within an hour’s drive of a
major U.S. city. Mayor Jeff Meyers stated that those of us who live here
know that Shawnee is a very safe community, with excellent schools and
friendly neighborhoods. It is a great place to call home. We are very
excited to have been selected as the best suburb in the Kansas City area
by such a renowned national publication as Business Week. The Kansas City
area has many quality communities and that makes this recognition even
more meaningful. Low crime, reasonable commute, and good schools—who
