Roundabout

Picture of a Roundabout at 67th & Gleason in Shawnee, KansasRoundabouts are circular intersections that are gaining popularity in the United States. At Roundabouts, the entering traffic yields the right-of-way to the circulating traffic. This yield-at-entry rule allows free-flow movement for circulating vehicles and reduces vehicle backup at the intersection.

The first modern Roundabout installed in Shawnee was completed in 2002 and can be found at the intersection of 67th Street and Gleason in western Shawnee.

Roundabouts have been found to have many advantages:

  • Reduction of angle and injury accidents
  • Reduction of traffic delays
  • Reduction of fuel consumption
  • Reduction of air pollution
  • Reduced maintenance and construction costs.
