McGruff Truck Program
The City of Shawnee participates in the
McGruff Truck© Program.
The goal of the program is to make neighborhoods safer for children. The
McGruff Truck Program provides a way for city employees to offer help in
emergency situations to anyone, especially young people. The McGruff
vehicles are easy to identify since they have the image of McGruff
the Crime Dog on the side of the vehicles.
The message of the McGruff
Truck Program is, "We'll call for help." The driver is trained to summon
appropriate help when flagged down by a child or individual in distress.
All McGruff vehicle drivers will have access to two-way communication so
that help can be summoned immediately.
Shawnee was one of the first
communities in Johnson County to mark all of it's Public Works and Parks
and Recreation vehicles as McGruff vehicles. Several utility companies in
the area also participate in the McGruff Truck Program. The Shawnee Police
Department's D.A.R.E. officers teach children in participating
schools about the McGruff Truck program.
