Child Car Seat Safety
Booster Seat Law (pdf)
The Traffic Safety Unit is responsible for educating the driving public
in the proper use of seatbelts and child safety restraints. The
officers are available to present programs to various civic organizations
and schools about the proper use of seat belts and safe driving habits.
If you or your organization would like an officer to give a presentation,
contact
Sgt.
Andrews at
(913) 742-6891.
Car Seat Inspections
The Unit’s Officers, have received extensive training regarding Child
Passenger Safety. They are able to inspect the installation of car
seats. A goal of the Traffic Safety Unit is to educate the public on the
proper use of their car seat. Residents should become familiar with the
instruction booklet for the car seat and any recommendations provided in
the owner’s manual of the vehicle. Traffic Safety Officers will inspect
connections and proper fit.
However, this service is offered only to Shawnee residents. (If you
do not reside in Shawnee, it is suggested that you check with you local
police department or the Kansas Highway Patrol.)
Shawnee residents interested in having a child safety seat inspected
must schedule an appointment for this service.
