This drainage sub-watershed is along the Turkey Creek Tributary 'F' immediately East of Nieman Rd to East of Barton St and has a long history of flooding adjacent homes, apartments and streets in large storm events. The Northeast Johnson County Watershed Study completed by Johnson County in 2006 identified numerous homes and streets flooding in this area. The existing system is undersized and inadequate and is contributing to the flooding of four (4) homes, two (2) commercial buildings and Nieman Road. The proposed project will include removal of two (2) homes, two (2) commercial buildings, installation of approximately 190 LF of concrete lined channel, 5 reinforced concrete boxes (2750 LF) under Nieman Rd and channel improvements transitions.

The design contract for this project was awarded to Olsson Associates on October 24, 2016. The construction of the project was awarded to VF Anderson on June 6, 2017. Construction has started with the removal of three homes on Roger Road to make room for the 4 culverts that are a total of 56 feet wide that will be installed under Nieman Road and connect to the two open channel sections of this Turkey Creek tributary. Utility relocations will occur throughout the project and we have been meeting with utilities since October 2017 to coordinate relocations. During August, the contractor will be relocating sanitary sewer across both Roger Road and Nieman Road, this is expected to require a minimum of 3 night closures of these two roads during the week of August 14th. This project will require multiple traffic pattern changes on Nieman Road throughout the project. Old Shawnee Pizza, State Farm, Sushi Mido and Precision Tune will stay open during construction but watch signage for access to their driveways and parking lots. Construction is currently scheduled to last until mid-March weather dependent.
