Standing Committees

The Finance and Administration Committee meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. and the Public Works and Safety Committee meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. consist of four Councilmembers.

Each committee has one councilmember from each of the four wards. The Mayor annually appoints the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the standing committees. Two committee members constitute a quorum to conduct business.

Councilmembers who are not members of the committee cannot vote unless the committee chairperson authorizes them to do so.  Committees meet to discuss certain issues prior to Council consideration.  Committee meetings are less formal than City Council meetings, allowing for more discussion. Standing committees do not take final action on topics they discuss, but rather forward their recommendations to the City Council as a whole for formal action.
