Business Licenses and Permits
Operating a business or performing a service in the City requires a
Business License. The licensing year is October 1st - September 30th.

Before the Licensing Division can issue an business license to a business in retail
space, the following is required:

Fire Inspections. A fire inspection must be completed before your

Public Improvements. Any public improvements (if required) must be
completed before your business can open.

Site Development Requirements. All site development construction
must be completed such as: final grading, stormwater drainage improvements, compliance
with stormwater detention ordinance and parking lot and drive approach construction.

Sign Permits. You must sign for a copy of the sign permit
requirements. Contact the Planning Department at

Building Permit. If you are building a new business or remodeling a
current business, you need a building permit. Codes Administration

Building Inspection. All businesses in retail space are required to
have a building inspection. Codes Administration

Certificate of Occupancy. A Certificate of Occupancy is required to
open. You can apply for a final Certificate of Occupancy through the Licensing Division
(913) 631-2500 x 240.

Business License. Once you have completed all the above steps,
you should complete an application for your Business License and pay the required fee
in the Licensing Division at City Hall. The fees vary according to the type of business.
