The Shawnee Irish Rock
On Sunday March 12, 2017 the Shawnee Irish Community will be rocking it as we gather for the Shawnee St. Patrick’s Parade. The theme of this year’s parade will be The Shawnee Irish Rock. Join us at 1:00 p.m. for the 35th annual Parade, hosted by the Irish American Club of Johnson County. Dream up a cool float to highlight your neighborhood, clan, or business. Or you can gather up your friends and come along as a marching group. Either way you have a chance to win a great CASH prize! Entry forms will be available at City Hall, and at www.irishamericanclub.org. This year’s $10 entry fee will help fund our donation to the Heroes Pull, which benefits Kansas Special Olympics.
If float design or marching is not your cup of Irish tea, line up along the parade route to watch all the entries go by. Parade line-up begins at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson Drive and Monrovia. The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. and proceeds down Johnson Drive from Monrovia east to Nieman Road.
Be sure to plan your entire day in Downtown Shawnee to enjoy a Rockin’ day of Irish Fun plus the Special Olympics Heroes Pull and Sister Cities Duck Race. You can start off by enjoying a hearty breakfast at one of the restaurants along the parade route, an Irish corned beef and cabbage lunch at the Knights of Columbus Hall, or some shopping at one of Shawnee’s unique Downtown merchants. Don’t forget to pick up one of our Parade Shirts along the parade route. The Heroes Pull, immediately following the parade in the Splash Cove parking lot, is the perfect post parade activity! You can end the day rooting for your winning Duck in the Sister Cities Duck Race in the Herman Laird Park parking lot at 4:30 p.m.
The parade is sponsored by the Irish American Club of Johnson County and the Shawnee St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, and many generous area businesses. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
