    2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey Results

    The City of Shawnee partnered with ETC Institute of Olathe, KS to conduct the 2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey during January and February of this year. The City does this survey as part of its ongoing effort to gauge citizen satisfaction with the quality of its services. The results help the City establish budget priorities and refine policy decisions.

    The seven-page survey was mailed out to a random sample of homes in the City of Shawnee. The goal was to get at least 400 completed surveys returned. That goal was far exceeded with a total of 653 households completing a survey.

    Overall, the results were extremely positive with 96% of residents ranking Shawnee as a place where they are happy to live. There has been a significant increase in satisfaction in many areas since the last time the City conducted a survey in 2015.

    The survey results also show Shawnee ranks far above other cities around the Kansas City Metropolitan area as well as around the country in a number of major categories. This includes overall quality of local police protection, maintenance of City streets, Parks and Recreation programs and facilities, snow removal on neighborhood streets and customer service from City employees.

    Citizen Survey Highlights (percentages are based on responses of “very satisfied” or “satisfied”)

    Quality of Life: 88% of residents are satisfied with the quality of life in Shawnee

    Public Safety: 93% are satisfied with police, fire, and ambulance services

    Parks and Recreation: 91% are satisfied with the City’s Parks and Recreation facilities and programs

    Value Received: 68% of residents are satisfied with the value received for their City tax dollars and fees.

    Customer Service: 81% are satisfied with the customer service they receive from City employees.

    Use of Tax Incentives: 70% of residents are supportive of the City using incentives to attract new businesses and redevelop underutilized areas

    Communication: 75% are satisfied with the level of communication they City has with the public.

    Citizens responding to the survey indicated that the two top priorities for the City over the next two years should be the maintenance of City streets and enforcement of City codes and ordinances.

    A representative with ETC Institute will be presenting a summary of the Citizen Satisfaction Survey results at the City Council meeting on March 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
