The following sections of the NEC, as adopted by Section 15.08.010, are amended as follows:
A. Amend the NEC by adding a new section 90.1 (E) Administration and Enforcement, which reads: (E) Administration and Enforcement
The Administrative Provisions of the 2012 International Building Code, Chapter 1, in its entirety, and as modified by the Shawnee Municipal Code, shall govern all matters within the scope of the NEC.
B. Amend the NEC by omitting section 210.12 Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter Protection., and amend by adding in lieu thereof a new 210.12 Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter Protection., which reads:
210.12 Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter Protection. All branch circuits that supply 120-volt, single phase 15- and 20-amphere receptacles installed in dwelling unit bedrooms shall be protected by a listed combination type arc-fault circuit interrupter, installed to provide protection of the branch circuit.
1. The location of the arc-fault circuit interrupter shall be permitted to be at other than the origination of the branch circuit in compliance with (a) or (b):
(a) The arc-fault circuit interrupter installed within 1.8 m (6 ft.) of the branch circuit overcurrent device as measured along the branch circuit conductors.
(b) The circuit conductors between the branch circuit overcurrent device and the arc-fault circuit interrupter shall be installed in a metal raceway or a cable with a metallic sheath.
2. Where an outlet branch-circuit AFCI is installed at the first outlet to provide protection for the remaining portion of the branch circuit, the portion of the branch circuit, between the branch-circuit over-current device and the first outlet shall be installed with metal or nonmetallic conduit or tubing that is encased in not less than two inches (2”) of concrete.
3. Arc-fault circuit-interrupter (AFCI) protection is not required for any existing branch circuit that was not required to have AFCI protection by a prior regulation.
