K-7 and Johnson Drive/55th Street Interchange Improvements
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the City of Shawnee conducted a public meeting on February 22, 2007. Above are the informational links about that public meeting. Background: In 2004, KDOT and the City of Shawnee studied potential improvements at the intersection of K-7 and Johnson Drive/55th Street. The study concluded that the current at-grade, signalized intersection is inadequate to handle anticipated traffic levels from rapid development in the area. It also reviewed three alternatives for handling anticipated future traffic growth and identified the preferred concept as a roundabout interchange with a second roundabout built west of K-7, at the intersection of Hedge Lane Terrace and 55th Street. Status of Project: KDOT has hired the consulting firm of GBA to develop plans for the new interchange. Preliminary plans have been completed and KDOT is in the process of acquiring necessary right-of-way and easements. Contacts:
