|The Shawnee City Council held its regular meeting on Monday May 9, 2016. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and the following actions were taken.|
The Consent Agenda was approved and included:
The Mayor spoke about a meeting she attended of the Shawnee Young Professionals. The Shawnee Young Professionals is a program of the Shawnee Chamber. At the meeting, two survey questions were asked - What are the top three attributes you look for when choosing where to live? What is one thing Shawnee can improve upon to attract more young professionals?
The Mayor indicated the survey results were very interesting.
Denise Shannon and Rebecca Bailey were reappointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board with terms expiring on December 31, 2017. The board acts in advisory capacity to the Governing Body promoting, aiding, encouraging and conducting public recreation, including the development of parks and recreation facilities and programs.
An Ordinance was passed authorizing the issuance of federally taxable private activity revenue bonds in the principal amount not to exceed $17,500,000 for the Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange.
A Resolution and Ordinance were approved declaring it necessary to acquire 2 tracks of private property for the Nieman Road Corridor South Storm Drainage Improvements Project, P.N. 3400. Both become effective after publication on Wednesday, May 26, 2016. In addition, the Governing Body approved final plans for the project and authorized staff to bid the project.
A contract was approved and awarded to Total Electric Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $107,795 for street light and traffic signal maintenance services.
Miscellaneous Council Items
Lastly, the semi-monthly claims for May 23, 2016 (city-wide expenses for the period) were approved. The meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
