|The Shawnee City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, July 25, 2016. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and the following actions were taken.|
The Consent Agenda was approved and included minutes from various meetings and a Special Use Permit for Sanders Home Day Care for up to 10 children. The business is located at 22102 W. 52nd Street.
Mayor Distler presented certificates to Beth Kornegay for the Shawnee, Kansas Rocks! program and to Savana Hook for serving as a Guest Councilmember from Ward 4.
The 2016 Revised Budget was approved as presented and the 2017 Budget was approved. The total approved budget for 2017 is $104,958,019. The City Council discussed the budget at eight meetings since the end of March. More details can be found on the 2017 Budget Calendar.
A public hearing was held and a Resolution adopted declaring the City’s intent to issue bonds for the Stag’s Creek Project in an amount not to exceed $8M. The developer is proposing a 34,627 square foot professional office and retail building along Shawnee Mission Parkway just east of Nieman Road.
A Resolution was adopted authorizing the City to use bonds to pay for a portion of the Nieman Road Corridor South Storm Drainage Improvements Project. The purpose of the project is to construct drainage improvements to help alleviate recurring flooding of streets and habitable structures along the Turkey Creek tributary from East of Nieman Road southeasterly to Shawnee Mission Parkway. Construction is currently underway.
Preliminary plans for the Clear Creek Parkway project were approved. This is a new section of Clear Creek Parkway to be constructed between Clare Road and K-7 Highway. This street will tie into the existing Clear Creek Parkway at Hedge Lane Terrace (just west of the K-7 overpass bridge) and continue west 1 mile to Clare Road.
An Ordinance was passed increasing the Storm Water Utility Fee. The fee is assessed on property in Shawnee and is used to pay for Stormwater Improvement. The fee was increased by $3 per month.
Items from the Planning Commission Meeting of July 6, 2016
An Ordinance was passed rezoning property located in the 6200 block of Nieman Road. The property was rezoned from Single Family Residential to Commercial Highway-Overlay for the Stag’s Creek Project.
Bids were approved and a contact was awarded for the Stormwater Improvements, 60th and Barton-Phase II project. The contract is Max Rieke Brothers, Inc for a cost of $120,608.42. The project is expected to start on August 22, 2016 and be complete by the end of October 2016.
Miscellaneous Council Items
Lastly, the semi-monthly claims for July 25, 2016 (city-wide expenses for the period) were approved. The meeting adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
