Council Actions

The Shawnee City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, March 27, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and the following actions were taken.

Consent Agenda
The Consent Agenda was approved and included:
Mayor’s Items
Bob Hamilton, KDOT Law Enforcement Liaison, presented the Community Traffic Safety Award from AAA to Police Chief Moser and the Traffic Safety Unit.

Public Items
The results of the 2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey were discussed.

The sale and delivery of General Obligation Bonds were approved.

A Resolution was approved authorizing the Mayor to sign a Special Warranty Deed and other release documents for Mather Enterprises.

A Loan Fee Repayment Program Application for Pinnacle Gymnastics and authorizing payment of a sum not to exceed $25,000.

A Recreational trail easement located at the 7300 and 7500 Blocks of Martindale Road was accepted and a portion of right-of-way along the northwest corner of 7315 Martindale was dedicated. These actions are related to the Railroad Quiet Zone project.

The Governing Body authorized the acquisition of private property for the 6200 Block of Nieman Culvert Storm Drainage Improvement Project, P.N. 3401, and the Nieman Road Corridor Middle Storm Drainage Improvement Project, P.N. 3424. Staff will work with property owners on obtaining the necessary easements to complete the project.

Items from the Planning Commission Meeting of March 6, 2017
Property was rezoned from Residential Suburban and Agricultural to Single Family Residential for the new Canyon Lakes subdivision located in the 23900-24700 Blocks of Clear Creek Parkway.

Items from the Council Committee Meeting of March 7, 2017
The Construction Manager at Risk Delivery method for Fire Station 74 was approved.

The Design-Build Delivery Method for the Flint Street, Johnson Drive to 62nd Terrace, Street Improvement Project, was approved.

Staff Items
Property at 13829 Johnson Drive was purchased in the amount of $173,500.

The purchase of two new Outdoor warning sirens from Blue Valley Public Safety in the amount of $52,360.40 was approved.

The purchase of 22 sets of Bunker Gear from Jerry Ingram Fire and Rescue in the amount of $51,002.16 was approved.

Final Plans were approved and staff was authorized to advertise the following projects for bid:
A contact with JR and Company Roofing Contractors for the 2017 Civic Centre Gym Roof Replacement Project, P.N. 3408, in the amount of $88,883 was approved.

Miscellaneous Council Items
Lastly, the semi-monthly claims for March 27, 2017 (city-wide expenses for the period) were approved and an executive session was held for the discussion of acquisition of property.
