A. CONSENT ITEMS

1. Approval of April 2, 2015 Park and Recreation Advisory Board Draft Minutes

MS. BAILEY: Seeing that we have quorum, we’ll move on to Consent Items and the April 2015 Parks and Board Minutes. Has everyone had a chance to review them? Are there any questions or changes?

MS. SAWYER: I move that we approve the minutes.

MS. SHANNON: I second.

MS. BAILEY: All those in favor?

PARK BOARD MEMBERS: Aye.

MS. BAILEY: Oppose? Motion passes. (Motion passes 7-0).

B. DISCUSSION ITEMS

Neil presented an update on the construction at Erfurt Park and handed out photos showing the current status. He reported that staff had been in discussion with the contractor regarding the subcontractor DD Hawkins and that the work on the shelters would be started immediately or a new subcontractor would be hired.

There is an inspector on site to insure quality and things are starting to proceed.
There has been a change to the materials used in the shelters. Staff was not happy with the stucco and the pricing and chose to switch to stone which will be more in tune with the desired appearance of Erfurt.

C. MEMBER REPORTS

MS. BAILEY: Next is Member Reports. Does anyone have anything to report this evening?

MS. COPP: Elaine stated that she’d like to thank the Parks Department for all their hard work for Old Shawnee Days.

D. STAFF REPORTS

1. Directors’ Reports

MS. BAILEY: Next up is Directors’ Report.

MR. HOLMAN: Currently working on the 2015 R and 2016 budgets. The application for the Bicycle Friendly Community is due August 15 and he is currently compiling all information. There is a new Walkable Friendly Community designation that he is also pursuing.

MS. BAILEY: Tonya?

MS. LECURU: The staff is working on the Tour de Shawnee which is August 30. Volunteers are needed. The BBQ is opening for registrations July 1. Parks and Recreation month begins July 1st and there will be an activity every day of the month.

MS. BAILEY: And Sean with the Aquatics report.

MR. KEENAN: Reported that attendance is currently down 14% due to weather. Swim lessons started a week later this year which worked in our favor and we haven’t had to cancel any lessons to date. All aquatic classes are full or filling and we have two new programs that have been very well received – Arthritis Water Exercise and Junior Lifeguard.

MS. COPP: Asked if you had a membership did you pay separately for classes?

MR. KEENAN: Replied yes.

MS. BAILEY: We’ll move on to the Recreation Report and Kate.

MS. KINKAID: Kate reported that we have had no weather issues to date. Successful classes for kids cooking and painting have required us to add new sections. Staff is also finalizing details for Parks and Recreation Month.

E. ADJOURNMENT

MS. BAILEY: And that looks like that wraps up our meeting. Do we have a motion to adjourn?

MS. RIGGS: So moved.

MS. SAWYER: I’ll second to adjourn.

MS. BAILEY: All those in favor?

PARK BOARD MEMBERS: Aye.

MS. BAILEY: Motion carries. (Motion carries 7-0). We’re adjourned.
