Council Actions

The Shawnee City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, February 13, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and the following actions were taken.

Consent Agenda
The Consent Agenda was approved and included approval of:
  • minutes from various meetings;
  • the withdrawal of a Special Use Permit for Twister’s Bar and Grill (they are no longer in business);
  • the extension of Special Use Permits for Sky Zone, the City of Shawnee for a Radio Tower at 6495 Quivira, Westar Energy for a Radio Tower at 8510 Cole Parkway, and Christine Foley-Mitchell for an in-home daycare at 21506 W 51st Terrace;
  • the acceptance of dedicated land for public purposes for the Shawnee Small Hospital Plat;
  • the termination of an independent contract agreement for crime analytics; and
  • a reimbursement agreement with Johnson County for the Nieman Road Corridor North Storm Drainage Improvements Project, P.N. 3425.

Public Items
An Excise Tax Abatement Agreement with TH-SHAWNEE, KS-1-UT, LLC was approved for the development of the Shawnee Small Hospital in the 15000 Block of W. 67th Street.

Staff Items
Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Units for the Fire Department were approved for $138,621.53.

Media storage for Police Body Cameras from DataEdge Solutions was approved for $94,386.93.

Ten Police Department replacement vehicles from Shawnee Mission Ford were approved for $295,542 and one Police Department CIU replacement Vehicle from Victory was approved for $24,266.

A dump truck from Summit Truck Group and corresponding equipment from American Equipment for the Public Works Department was approved for $141,181 and pavement striping equipment from Vogel Traffic Services was approved for $196,691.

A contract with West Interactive Services (CivicLive) for a new City website was approved for $100,396.

The 2017 Federal Legislative Program was approved.

Preliminary plans were approved for the 6200 Block of Nieman Stormwater Improvements Project, P.N. 3401 and a reimbursement agreement with Johnson County was approved to cover the cost of engineering services.

Preliminary plans were approved for the Nieman Road Corridor Middle Stormwater Improvements Project, P.N. 3424 and a reimbursement agreement with Johnson County was approved to cover the cost of engineering services.

Miscellaneous Council Items
Lastly, the semi-monthly claims for February 13, 2017 (city-wide expenses for the period) were approved. The March 13, 2017 City Council meeting was cancelled and an executive session was held.
