Building Permit Guidelines For Pools & Hot Tubs
A permit is required to install all swimming pools and hot
tubs which are 24" or more in depth. Pool and hot tub construction is
governed by the 2003
International Residential Code, Appendix G., 1997 Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code and the
2002 National Electric Code. Pool

Pool and Hot Tub Requirements:

Pools and hot tubs must be located in the rear yard and at
least 10' from all property lines.

Above ground pools, cabanas, bath houses, etc. must be at
least 15' from the house or primary structure.

Pools and hot tubs must be enclosed by a minimum 6' tall
barrier, constructed as required by the
2003 International Residential Code,
Appendix G as amended. The
barrier must be installed before the pool is filled.

An electrical bonding inspection and a final inspection
are required on all pools. At least 1 electrical 120V plug, GFCI
protected, must be provided between 10' and 20' from the pool or hot tub.
The pool or hot tub must also comply with the required clearances from
overhead wires.
Fees: $20.00 for all private pools and hot tubs and $30.00
for public or semi-private pools
